Mental Health is a highly specialised area of law and one with which very few firms in the area have the expertise to deal. At GHP Legal our Mental Health team includes two members of the Mental Health Tribunal Accreditation Scheme, one of whom is also a Solicitor-Advocate and can provide representation in the Higher Courts.
We regularly act for patients in hospitals and nursing homes across North Wales, Mid Wales, Shropshire and the North West. Understanding the importance of acting quickly if a client is sectioned under the Mental Health Act, we always seek to ensure their detention is reviewed by a Mental Health Review Tribunal or hospital managers at the earliest possible time. As well as representing clients at these meetings we will, if we feel it is appropriate, consider other actions such as judicial review and habeas corpus, under the Human Rights Act or Mental Capacity Act.
We vigorously enforce the rights of all our clients if we believe they are being infringed and will advise on their rights to appropriate after-care following discharge from hospital and on complaints procedures. Once contacted, we will aim to go and see the client at their place of detention within 24 – 48 hours. We also advise relatives of patients on their rights and responsibilities to be involved.
